September 18, 2018 Paris

The 2018 nCode User Group Meeting – Europe will take place September 18th and 19th at the Novotel Convention & Spa Roissy CDG, (Paris) France. The UGM features industry presentations from nCode users representing Bosal, Faurecia, Honeywell, PSA, Renault SAS and Scania.

We recently had the chance to speak with two presenters representing the durability and NVH communities to get their feedback on the exceptional value of attending the 2018 nCode User Group Meeting (UGM), what they are expecting to gain from the event, and the challenges they’ve overcome using nCode software.

Alexandre Rigault, R&D Vibro Acoustic Engineer at Honeywell Transportation Systems

Saeid Rezaee, Strength and Durability Numerical Simulation Referent DEA-TDS, Methods & Tools for Numerical Simulation at Renault

Alexandre Rigault, Honeywell:  My presentation, “Automotive Turbochargers Aero Acoustic Noise Source Characterization”, was especially created to share our positive experience of using nCode VibeSys at Honeywell. The French HBM Prenscia team helped me a lot during the introduction process at Honeywell and I wanted to share this good collaboration and relationship.  We were able to evaluate VibeSys on real cases and perform analysis on challenges we had last year. We had quite a good experience and we saw a high potential during this first VibeSys internal usage.

Saeid Rezaee, Renault: The contribution of Renault, in partnership with HBM Prenscia, represents a unique opportunity to share knowledge and collect information. The nCode UGM is an ideal venue to exchange experience on challenges durability experts commonly face. I expect that the event will allow me to discover new methodologies and innovations, reflect on new problems and solutions, present our specific area of application in order to gather feedback and suggestions, and identify opportunities for innovative methodologies by collaborating with other companies.

Alexandre Rigault, Honeywell: For me, the benefits of participating at the nCode UGM are to be able to see presentations from other industries and companies to monitor technological developments about NVH topics and technical trends. Also, I think it is a good opportunity to meet HBM Prenscia experts to discuss software capabilities and features, methodologies, share and discuss issues or software evolutions that could be helpful, and build a good relationship for potential collaboration projects and paper writing.

Saeid Rezaee, Renault: The durability community gathers at the nCode UGM to learn about and discuss nCode software applications that are well known and widely used for fatigue analysis. As far as software is concerned, we can discuss good practices to implement in order to optimize their use. When it comes to analytics, I cannot wait to find out what my peers are using in the development, preliminary design and validation phases to see if this can help us optimize our current processes.

Alexandre Rigault, Honeywell: Nowadays, the automotive industry trends shorten the project cycle time for product development more and more. From an engineering point of view, it means that we have to do it right and fast, especially during testing campaigns done for product characterization or validation. In other words, we need to be able to quickly post-process huge amounts of experimental data in order to extract the most relevant results, and make these results available and readable for an internal technical community who needs to decide about the next project & development steps.

Saeid Rezaee, Renault: The first challenge is to correlate experimental results and simulation results. We want to use more and more experimental results to recalibrate the FE models and improve their accuracy for more realistic life data calculations. I'm interested to discover the development on virtual sensors that are available in recent versions.

The second challenge is to use loads derived from the real usage of our customers. How do we ensure the quality of this data? How do we synthesize these hours of driving in a representative synthetic load? Although I am more simulation oriented, the data analysis done with nCode GlyphWorks also interests me a lot because the quality of the load data is essential in the calculation of the life expectancy.

Alexandre Rigault, Honeywell: Initially we identified the potential of VibeSys as a powerful NVH test data post-processing tool, for a specific need of investigating noise related to a new type of turbocharger product still under development. This product is a key project for the future of Honeywell’s business, and noise was identified as a critical acceptance criteria that could potentially be a “project killer.”

Just a few months after VibeSys was introduced at Honeywell, we were able to process a huge amount of experimental data coming from turbo NVH cells, and apply on this data new internal acoustic criteria we created to characterize different components of compressor area noises. VibeSys' flexibility and efficiency were key success factors.

Saeid Rezaee, Renault: The nCode applications allow us to calculate fatigue for cases of various complexity levels. The software allows us to build standard analysis workflows that graphically represent our expertise, methodologies, and material data. Those analysis workflows can be shared and made available globally to users of varied experience levels. This is a very effective way to deploy software and analysis processes for a worldwide organization such as Renault.

The 2018 nCode User Group Meeting - Europe in Paris is free to attend, however seating is limited so we do request that you register in advance.
