HBK Celebrates Successful Launch of Solar Electricity at Royston Site

HBK is delighted to announce the successful activation of its solar electricity installation at the Royston site in the United Kingdom. The solar panels are now fully operational and will contribute up to 60% of the site’s energy requirements. The remainder of our electricity comes from renewable sources.

The journey to this achievement involved extensive coordination and collaboration between HBK, our landlord, and the solar installation team, spanning over a year.

Key statistics:

  • The installation boasts 845 solar panels
  • These panels generate approximately 340 kW peak power, equivalent to the energy needs of an HBK V994 shaker system at full capacity
  • Over the course of a year, the solar panels are expected to provide around 300 MWh of electricity, meeting up to 60% of the site’s total energy demands
  • Surplus energy, especially during periods of high supply and low demand, will either be used for charging electric vehicles at three designated points or sold back to the UK’s national grid

Dr Lawrence Grasty, HBK’s Director, Net Zero, extends his appreciation, “I’m absolutely delighted that our Royston facility is now substantially powered by solar electricity, and want to extend my thanks to all those who worked so hard to get us here, not least by ensuring that everyone worked safely on-site. Our company goal is to help the world become cleaner, healthier and more productive, by empowering customer innovation – and in this case, through how we ourselves operate. Well done!”

The Royston site joins Denmark as the second of HBK’s locations using locally generated solar power. Stay tuned for details on our upcoming third site, with more groundbreaking initiatives anticipated in 2024.
