Big Data for Durability and Reliability Engineers

The term big data is used in many ways and for many applications. The increased connectivity and availability of sensor data is driving new big data opportunities for both the design engineering and asset operations communities. However, the reality of unleashing this potential is perhaps more challenging than is often portrayed by major information technology vendors.

Introduction to Fatigue and Durability

Fatigue is an important failure mode that needs to be accounted for in product design. Over time, stress cycles can cause cracks to start and grow until structural failure. It is important to understand and predict fatigue to avoid these costly and dangerous failures. This webinar will introduce the fatigue failure mode, illustrate important concepts, and demonstrate ways to predict product life. We will discuss fatigue calculation methods like stress-life (SN), strain-life (EN), and crack growth. nCode software will be used to demonstrate applications of these concepts.

Democratization and How to Deliver Its Benefits

Democratization promises to deliver real benefits for durability analysis by capturing corporate knowledge and making targeted, well-defined simulations easier for more engineers to perform. But to do so, it must overcome some real practical challenges in order to become a broadly adopted reality. To achieve these aims, democratization through the use of engineering apps must be in the hands of engineers themselves so that the whole lifecycle of apps can be efficiently and cost effectively managed.

Random Vibration Fatigue Capabilities in nCode DesignLife

Vibration Fatigue is a failure mode that can affect many components and assemblies under repeated loading. Such vibration loading inputs can activate resonance conditions which require estimation of stresses from a dynamic FE run. In nCode DesignLife, these dynamic stresses can be paired with random PSD excitations in the frequency domain to obtain fatigue answers. In addition to stress-life analysis, nCode DesignLife also covers strain-life, spot weld and seam weld analysis in the frequency domain.

Accelerate Decision Making with Faster Analysis and Data Search

This webinar will reveal how engineers can rapidly get actionable insights from large quantities of sensor data using nCode software. A live demonstration of Aqira and nCodeDS will illustrate search capabilities that enable you to perform data-related queries, even down to the individual measurement channel. It will also show how using these search results together with scalable data analytics enables you to more rapidly solve your engineering challenges.

Predicting the Fatigue Life of Welds with WholeLife

The WholeLife fatigue method in nCode DesignLife brings powerful new analysis capabilities for a more accurate prediction of weld fatigue life that results in improved product durability, reduced overdesign, and lower weight and cost. WholeLife uses an integrated approach to model fatigue over the entire lifetime of the component – from very early stages of crack initiation to macroscopic crack growth and final fracture – to give a more accurate determination of weld life. This combined approach of crack initiation and crack growth overcomes limitations and assumptions that are inherent in adopting either of these approaches separately. Join us for this 45-minute webinar as we demonstrate how WholeLife can be used to predict the fatigue life of welded components to ensure product durability requirements are met.

Correlating Experimental Test Data and FE Results

Finite element analysis can be improved through correlation with measured strain. The Virtual Strain Gauge feature in nCode DesignLife provides a unique, powerful way of correlating physical test with finite element analysis results. It also facilitates the reconstruction of applied load histories from measured strain gauge data on a component. This webinar shows, from start-to-finish, how to setup virtual strain gauges on your finite element model, how to extract strain results, and how to compare these strains. Solutions to improve correlation will also be discussed.
